Kigongo advises new party members to avoid corruption

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice-chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, has advised members who have newly defected to the party not to be corrupt like some party officials.

Kigongo was last week receiving over 300 people who defected to the NRM a few days ahead of the party’s grassroots elections in Alebtong and Lira districts.

He cited the National Agriculture Advisory Services which used up a lot of government funds but no credible changes were attained in the lives of the expected beneficiaries due to corruption.

In a letter read by Kigongo, President Yoweri Museveni urged willing independent politicians to join the NRM, saying they were a significant force in the 2006 elections.

He directed local party leaders to register them in the yellow book (the NRM register) and allow them to compete for party offices. Among the defectors was the Lira district chairperson, Franco Ojur.

Together with the woman MP, Rebecca Amuge Otengo, and three councillors from the district local government, Ojur signed a memorandum of understanding with the NRM party at the president’s country home in Rwakitura.
